Two events based on the same novel by Yasmina Khadra published in 2006 by Mondadori entitled L’attentatrice and recently republished in a new edition by Sellerio under the original title: L’attentato.
To start off the evening, the author will talk to the Dedica audience about this book, which he is particularly fond of. This will be followed by the screening of the film taken from the book.
The film was shot in Israel by the Lebanese filmmaker Ziad Doueiri and features Israeli and Palestinian actors, and, despite a few liberties taken with respect to the plot, fully embraces the spirit of the novel.
Siham is a young Palestinian woman who lives in Israel and apparently has everything she needs to be happy: a perfect marriage and an affluent lifestyle. Her husband is a respected Arab surgeon, who has made integration and the fight against prejudice his banner. But when the man is called to operate on the countless victims of yet another attack, a shocking truth takes hold of him, which will spur him on to investigate and discover an unimaginable reality of which he was unable to heeds the signals.

Ziad Doueiri
The film director and screenwriter Ziad Doueiri, born in the Lebanon in 1963, worked as camera assistant under Quentin Tarantino in Jackie Brown, From Dusk till Dawn, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Noted for his opposition to boycotts of Israeli goods, he gained permission to film L’attentat (The attack) precisely in Israeli territory. The film, banned by censorship in the Lebanon and in Arabic-speaking countries, was an immediate international success and obtained numerous acclaims, including selection for the Festival International du film de Toronto (2012) and won the Grand Prix du Festival de Marrakech (2012). In 2015 Ziad Doueiri shot the Baron Noir series featuring Kad Merad, Niels Arestrup and Anna Mouglalis in France for Canal+. The fiction will go on air during 2016.
