The prelude to Dedica

POETS, PIRATES AND FUGITIVES. AN ITINERANT READING THE WORK OF BJÖRN LARSSON
Introductions by Andrea Visentin, reading by Carla Manzon
An itinerant reading hosted by five bookstores in Udine, to bring us closer to the work of Björn Larsson and immerse ourselves in his literary world. During the course of these readings, the public can discover stories describing men and women who are determined to discover the truth at the cost of their own personal freedom, or poets seeking new forms of expression, or old sea salts who have based their own personal credo on the need for coherence.
Saturday, 18 February 2017 5.30 p.m. – Bookstores in central Udine: La Pecora Nera, Martincigh, CLUF, Kobo Shop, Odòs (departure from La Pecora Nera bookstore, Via Gemona n. 46).

TRAVELS WRITTEN BY HAND. CONVERSATION WITH PAOLO GANZ
organized by Libreria Quo Vadis?
According to Björn Larsson, literature and the sea have in common that both are places in which new ways of thinking and new ways of life can take form, effortlessly crossing all borders. A shared approach to life led the author and musician Paolo Ganz to embark on a sailing adventure, navigating through the waters surrounding the Greek islands and meeting many people whose lives have proved truly positive, which is the life-blood of all true voyagers.
Tuesday, 21 February, 2017 8.45 p.m. - Libreria Quo Vadis? Pordenone

IF THE PEN IS THE SHIP AND THE BOOK IS THE SEA. UNAUTHORIZED PIRATE TALES
A buccaneering evening with pirates and corsairs presented by Angelo Floramo, with live music by Giulio Venier
A roguish pirate voyage across the high seas of history and literature, chasing the brigs that sail through the imagination, capturing all the awe and wonder that these voyages and boarding raids in the middle of vast oceans have always engendered in all those who have followed these adventures with their eyes plunged deep into the abysses of the printed pages. A buccaneering evening that is ripe for plundering.
Thursday 23 February 8.45 p.m. – Passariano di Codroipo, Ristorante Nuovo Doge
in collaboration with the Caffè Letterario Codroipese
Saturday 4 March 8.45 p.m. - Sacile, Ospitale di San Gregorio
in collaboration with UTE, Sacile and Altolivenza

MY NAME IS BJORN LARSSON
Stage reading produced by Associazione La Ruota di Gruaro
In this stage reading, La Ruota presents some of the themes that are dear to Björn Larsson, including his conviction that living at sea allows us to dream and, in dreaming, to learn virtues such as humility, tenacity, patience and respect for others.
This reconstruction of Larsson's thinking includes direct readings of a number of excerpts from his books, which in many ways echo the thoughts of other writers from around the world – giants such as Hikmet, Keats, Pessoa, Neruda, Leopardi, Szymborska, Baudelaire, Machado, Conrad and Coloane – who, like Larsson, loved life, freedom, independence and the sea.
Friday 24 February 8.45 p.m. – Giai di Gruaro, Villa Ronzani

THE VOICE OF THE SEA. STORIES AND THE SOUNDS OF PIRATES AND OCEANS
with Fabiano Fantini and Trio Kalliope, sound and technical effects by Simone Ciprian, directed by Alessandro Venier
produced by Bottega Errante and Thesis Associazione Culturale, in collaboration with Libreria Quo Vadis?
A new co-production for Dedica presents a fascinating stage reading describing the themes and places that are so dear to Björn Larsson. In a tapestry of words and music, the voices of an actor and three young musicians offer their rendering of some of the most beautiful passages that literature has dedicated to the seas and the oceans, in a voyage that has a special flavour of adventure and legend, delving deep in a search for forgotten stories of sailing men who refuse to be vanquished.
Wednesday 1 March 8.45 p.m. – Fagagna, Palazzo Pico
Thursday 2 March 8.45 p.m. – Lignano Sabbiadoro, Cinecity
Friday 3 March 8.45 p.m. – Portogruaro, Civic Library
Tuesday 7 March 8.45 p.m. – Porcia, Auditorium, Lower High School

PIRATE OF THE YEAR
Readings and workshop for children organized by Maria Balliana, in collaboration with Biblioclub Sacile
In a meeting dedicated to younger children, inspired by the stories that Björn Larsson loved to read to his small daughter in the evenings, the Biblioclub in Sacile presents his story Il pirata dell'anno, which narrates how a handful of buccaneers took part in a "meanest pirate" contest! This will be followed by a workshop on "boarding a ship".
Saturday 4 March 10.30 a.m. – Sacile, Civic Library
